THL series thrusters are true servo thrusters, the result of over 20 years of deep submergence experience in the design and operation of ROVs. Simple and reliable, the THL series is a post axial vane type designed for exceptional thrust performance at speed. The THL series' high exit velocity makes it possible to propel streamlined underwater vehicles at speeds up to 5 knots.

The THL 404-8 is the newest thruster in the Deep Sea Systems International THL series. It combines the highly reliable and mature THL 404 motor frame with an advanced 8-inch propeller and nozzle combination. This combination generates up to 30% greater thrust over the same electrical input range than the standard THL-404. This thruster maintains a low drag profile and will be useful to designers who wish to propel streamlined submersible vehicles at speeds over 5 knots. With minimal maintenance, this thruster will give years of reliable service.

The THL series thrusters have simple motor and resolver coils, which are contained in a pressure balanced, oil filled housing with a positive overall pressure inside. The output shaft has oversized high precision deep groove ball bearings and is sealed by a long life ceramic / graphite rotary shaft seal. A spring-loaded compensator allows for the expansion and contraction of the compensation oil, and maintains a positive internal pressure, eliminating water intrusion. A compensator tattle tail allows for easy pre-dive and post-dive checks to detect leaks if they occur.
